The Truth about Life Coaching and Psychotherapy

If you're thinking about making an appointment with a life coach or even a psychotherapist, it's important that you understand what to expect.
Let me explain:
When you have enough money, you can get away with having your needs met by doing very little, if anything at all. If there is something you want, you can often buy it. If there is something you need done, you can often pay someone to do it. However, this is not the case when it comes to personal change.
Personal change is not something that can be done for you.
Yes, services like life coaching and psychotherapy can be very effective in helping you get the results you want. However, regardless of whether you want to achieve personal change on your own or through professional help, I can guarantee you that you will have to be an active participant in that process. That's the truth and there's no way around it.
Nonetheless, that shouldn't make the pursuit of personal change any less worth it. Quite the opposite, I would argue. The beauty of personal change is that, whether you received help or not, you truly own your success. At the end of the day, you were the one doing what needed to be done to get to where you wanted to be. And there's nothing more empowering than that.
Furthermore, the decision to see a life coach or a psychotherapist is a brave and wise decision! I believe that you are able to accomplish much more, and in less time, if you were to collaborate with a third party on your problems as opposed to trying to do it all by yourself. We all have blind spots that often require an outside observer to pick up on and help us become aware of.
Again, it's just important for you to understand that, though you can pay for personal change, personal change cannot actually be done for you.
It's similar to getting in shape. A personal trainer can help you tremendously when it comes to this, but no personal trainer can lift the weight for you.
If, going into your first session with a coach or therapist, you expect that it will be like swallowing a pill and just waiting for it to take effect, you will only be disappointed.
So, be prepared to lift some weight. Work those MENTAL MUSCLES!
If you've been contemplating life coaching, are ready to lift that weight, and want to optimize your results, feel free to contact me for an appointment.
However, if you are broke, uncomfortable with seeking help from others, or simply unable to do so, all is not lost! That's what this blog is all about. Stay tuned!
